🔍✈️Did you know❓ Collecting #AeronauticalInformation has significantly evolved with the latest updates of ICAO Annex 15 and Doc 8126.
1️⃣Annex 15 introduces the concepts of 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 and 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳.
• 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 is the creation or modification of aeronautical data or information.
• 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 merges the roles previously defined by Eurocontrol as Data Originator (entity responsible for data origination) and Data Provider (entity responsible for providing data to AIS). Granted, “Data Provider” is vague and could be mixed up with providers of flight data to airlines.
These definitions diverge from standard English language and are not consistent with each other, but let’s not be too nitpicking, shall we? 😉
2️⃣The AIS Manual has bid farewell to the “Aeronautical information promulgation advice form”. Instead, PANS-AIM outlines the specific data and metadata requirements for AIS, allowing flexibility on the actual collection method. These SARPs do recommend using digital data from origination to distribution. Does your AIS collect aeronautical information digitally? Share your approach in the comments!
3️⃣Doc 8126 delves into the responsibilities of Aeronautical Data Originators. Will originators be aware of these changes? States are responsible to enact those responsibilities in national law, and AIS plays a pivotal role in disseminating the news.
4️⃣Maintaining a comprehensive list of Originators and establishing clear service-level agreements are essential steps toward efficient data provision.
